Air Fryer Fish and Chips

Servings 4
The perennial British favorite - much loved by Yanks as well - gets an upgrade via the air fryer. Deep-fried foods typically use less-than-ideal soybean oil. This recipes uses a scant amount of olive oil instead.

Ingredients:

For the Fish

For the Chips

  • 2-3 large potatoes, peeled and cut into thick fries
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
  • In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Coat each fish fillet in the seasoned flour mixture, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it in the panko breadcrumbs. Press down to make sure the breadcrumbs stick.
  • Place the breaded fish fillets in the air fryer basket, making sure they're not touching. Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through.
  • While the fish is cooking, toss the potato fries with olive oil and salt in a bowl.
  • Place the potato fries in the air fryer basket, making sure they're not touching, and cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally, or until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve the fish and chips with malt vinegar, lemon, tartar sauce or ketchup.
