|“America’s pediatrician” – William Sears, M.D. – delivers a clear, fun primer on fish fats
By Craig Weatherby
In The Omega-3 Effect, William Sears, M.D. – often called “America’s Pediatrician” – turns his attention to the vital role of omega-3s in human health.
We’ve read just about every book on the subject, and consider The Omega-3 Effect
a uniquely clear, thorough – and entertaining – guide.
This very welcome, overdue book – co-authored by his some James Sears, M.D. – continues the Sears tradition of writing books that reach the most readers with the best science in the simplest way.
Clearly, Dr. Sears hewed to the twin KISMIF principles that helped make many of his books bestsellers: “Keep It Simple, Make It Fun”, and “Keep It Scientific, Make It Factual”.
Dr. Sears draws on his personal experience – including the colon cancer diagnosis that led him on a search for the perfect diet – and his enormous clinical experience with kids and parents.
But before writing the book, he consulted the top experts in omega-3 research, including:
Physician Jorn Dyerberg, M.D., who discovered the heart-health effects of omega-3s.
Biochemist William Lands, Ph.D., who ranks very high among the most respected and published omega-3 researchers in the world.
Psychiatrist Joe Hibbeln, M.D., from the National Institutes of Health, who led landmark studies of omega-3s’ effects on mental health and child development.
His discussions with these experts confirmed his clinical experience that, as he says, “omega-3s function as medicine for brains and bodies of all ages”.
Dr. Sears takes readers through each body system – including the brain, heart, joints, skin, and immune system – and demonstrates how omega-3s are essential to each.
The Omega-3 Effect
also offers tips on what foods and supplements readers should incorporate into their diet, as well as several delicious recipes.
Dr. Sears offers a practical, science-based approach to living a more healthful life – with the aid of clarifying illustrations and clever cartoons.
We heartily recommend The Omega-3 Effect … it’s a great guide to using omega-3s to optimize health.
