Our premium Indonesian Korintje Cinnamon comes from the southwest coast of Sumatra, where Cinnamomum burmanii trees grow wild on mountain slopes.
We chose Korintje — a type preferred by many cooks — because it
is smoother than the more common "Chinese" variety (C. cassia).

Health benefits:

  • Research indicates that cinnamon may help moderate blood sugar, exert antioxidant effects, reduces inflammation, and boost key brain functions.
  • The cinnamon constituent cinnamaldehyde reduces activation of Nf-kappaB: a pro-inflammatory “nuclear transcription factor” linked to inflammatory diseases including cancer, atherosclerosis, diabetes, allergy, asthma, arthritis, Crohn's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

Of cinnamon and synonyms: Names differ, but all kinds are "true"
There are some 100 species of Cinnamonum, but Ceylon (C. zeylanicum), Chinese (C. cassia), and Indonesian (C. burmanii or cassia) cinnamon are the leading kinds by far. Ceylon cinnamon is often referred to erroneously as “true” cinnamon, simply because it was the first kind introduced to the Western world.

The Chinese and Indonesian varieties are known generically but inaccurately as “cassia”. Our Indonesian Korintje cinnamon is C. burmanii, not C. cassia.
All three species (C. zeylanicum, C. cassia, and C. burmanii) feature very similar fragrances and sweet, warm flavors. Chinese and Indonesian cinnamons are much more common in North America.
